September 8, 2018
Labor Day Weekend is behind us and I believe everyone who attended had a good time. The entertainment was excellent, and the weather was typical for early September, with a mixture of warm and cooler temperatures mixed with a bit of rain.
The State of the Resort meeting was well attended, with Jesse True, the acting general manager of Copper Mountain Resort Company providing an excellent overview of what is happening around the Resort, as well as introducing key individuals in charge of various departments. The two new lifts being constructed, out of the center village, were a topic of interest to all attendees. According to Bruce Hodson, in charge of mountain operations, these lifts are on schedule and it is the plan to have them operating on opening day. Super Bee will likely be busy early this fall as training occurs on the Excelerator lift in late October. Super Bee would provide access to this area, for the athletes training on Copperopolis.
Various projects around the Resort are being completed and everyone is working toward opening day which is just over 60 days from now. The Aspen trees are beginning their annual change to gold and orange leaves and snow has been falling on the high peaks.
Overall, the summer was successful even though we did not have lift rides to Solitude this year due to the lift replacement. Holly Robinson, events coordinator at the Copper Mountain Resort Association, was able to attract some excellent entertainment for the weekends.
With all of the consolidation of ski resorts underway, the consumer will have many options available with lift passes. Many owners we have talked to are very excited about the Ikon pass that Copper is participating in.
A 127 room hotel is scheduled to break ground on the Chapel Lot this fall. This is proposed to be a limited service hotel (no restaurant or convention facilities) that will be managed by Copper Mountain but owned by a developer from Telluride. There is not a lot of information that has been communicated, but the Ten Mile Planning Commission will be reviewing this project on September 13, 2018. We are hopeful that more information will be forthcoming at that meeting.
Thank you for participating in the future of Copper Mountain. We believe our momentum is strong and the future bright.
