March 10, 2020
We lost a "legend" this past Thursday, when Frank Walter passed away in Golden, CO. Many of you knew Frank who skied almost every day up until a few years ago. He took his last run last winter at age 96. Frank lived a full and eventful life, he will be missed as a fixture at Copper Mountain. We understand there will be a celebration of his life sometime in April, here at Copper.
February ended up being the month that it would not stop snowing. Copper reported 95 inches
for February which has had an average of 45 inches over the past several years. The local paper stated that Breckenridge reported the most snow in February ever. March has been rather lite thus far, but the average snowfall for the month of March is 52 inches. Thus, there is much of the winter remaining.
You may have heard that we are no longer (as of April 1) managing Copper Valley Condominiums. I did resign from the position of managing agent for Copper Valley at their January board of directors meeting. We look forward to the transition to the new management of that complex after many years of being the managing agent for the association.
Everyone is very concerned about the implications of the ‘coronavirus’ as it relates to future bookings and the overall economy. With cases reported in Eagle, Pitkin and Summit Counties all are being very careful regarding the future. The stock market is an indicator of national concerns, with Vail experiencing a 24% decline in their stock price and future bookings being canceled. We are monitoring
our own situation, encouraging guests and employees to be vigilant of all health matters. While it appears that healthy individuals are mildly impacted, we encourage everyone to be aware of their practices.
It is hard to believe but there are only about five weeks remaining before the lifts stop for our current season. Get out and enjoy the fresh air and the mountain. As a reminder, planning ahead for unit upgrades during the off season is appropriate for the upcoming months.
