The big snow two weeks ago that everyone heard about hit the front range with about 20 inches, but we only got about 2. The good news it snowed last Sunday night and we received about 8 inches. So skiing is getting better and better with more opening every day. The West Village opened last weekend and will permanently open for the balance of the year on Thursday, the 12th. We are told that Rosie’s will open to the public on the 14th in the East Village.
Around the Resort, we are seeing the departure of international ski teams as they leave for World Cup races in Killington, Lake Louise and Beaver Creek. Younger ski racers from teams throughout the US are taking their place, as the Resort continues to be a breeding ground for world class skiers and boarders.
The distressing news last weekend was the death of a fire fighter who fell off the roof of Bridge End Condominiums, while responding to a fire call. We do not have a lot of details as to exactly what occurred but share the sad news as fire fighter Ken Jones leaves behind a wife and two children. The Summit Foundation has established a fund for the Jones family. Contributions in Ken’s name are being taken at P.O. Box 4000, Breckenridge, CO 80424. Mailed donations should be labeled “In Memory of Ken Jones”.
Work continues at the new hotel at the Chapel Lot. Framing of the new structures at the Resort entrance is moving forward. The new Three Bears lift on Tucker Mountain is near being ready and the improvements to the Flyer lift (additional towers) and fine tuning of the Eagle lift have made last season’s challenges with these lifts a memory that we hope to soon forget.
Reservations for the upcoming winter are looking strong. We are gearing up for the snowboard competition that is scheduled for next weekend. Some of the world’s best snowboarders are planning to be at Copper for this event. Return guests are booking their favorite condos, townhomes & houses and we look forward to a busy winter.
Real estate activity remains strong as well priced properties are not lasting on the market for very long. County-wide the number of sales is down, but values certainly are up.
As we enter the Holidays, we wish all of you a prosperous and happy season.
Very truly yours,
