The big news at Copper this week was the announcement that American Eagle and American Flyer lifts will be replaced this coming summer. While final forest service approval is still to occur, the replacement of these two lifts is exciting news. According to the press release American Eagle will be a combination 6 passenger chair and 8 passenger gondola. American Flyer will become a six passenger chair with a cover capability. Per Copper, this will increase uphill capacity about 40%.
The other thing noteworthy of mention is the ski-pass battle that will have the new Alterra ‘Ikon
Pass’ going head to head with Vail Resorts ‘Epic Pass’. Copper Mountain will be part of the Ikon Pass offering and certainly the customer will be the winner. Being able to purchase a pass that is good at 26 destination resorts in the U.S. and Canada looks to be a great buy!
The snowfall at Copper and throughout the central Rockies has certainly been below average this winter. However, experiencing the ski mountain last Thursday for the Bus League races found skiing to be tremendous. Copper hosted a NorAm race last weekend which included a downhill that closed part of the mountain to public access for part of the week. I believe that all participants greatly enjoyed Copper and the excellent races that employees in the race department put on.
As we enter the closing weeks of this ski season everyone is preparing for all that must be completed the second half of April, May and early June. We will be carrying out the annual tasks involved with carpet cleaning, deep cleans and renovation projects that owners have planned. As a reminder, this is the time of year to accomplish renovation projects for your property. Cindy will be sending out the annual owner’s calendars for you to complete (if you do not do so electronically). We are starting to take more summer reservations, so please book your time early so that we don’t have any conflicts.
Real Estate continues to be very brisk. We have a low inventory of units on the market for sale and several sales have occurred with properties that were not formally on the market. So, if you are thinking about selling, let us know. We might have a buyer for what you have and would like to assist if possible.
The election of directors for the Copper Mountain Consolidated Metropolitan District has been cancelled, as there are the same number of candidates as positions open. If you have not answered the survey that was recently circulated by the Resort Chamber, please do so. The results will help the Metro District in negotiations with Copper to replace the current play field in the Alpine Lot.
