It is hard to believe but we are just past the half-way mark of this ski season. While snow conditions have certainly been below normal, we are seeing strong demand for lodging and skiers are reporting an excellent experience on the mountain.
Speculation is strong that the Chapel Lot hotel project is moving forward and there is a good possibility that groundbreaking may occur this summer. At a recent meeting of the Resort Chamber Board, Gary Rodgers stated that while he’d love to tell everyone what is planned he is restricted from doing so. He did state that this coming summer may be even more busy than last, with projects that are being planned.
As part of the proposed PUD modifications, the affordable housing project being planned for the North Alpine Lot will displace the existing soccer field. A controversial circumstance definitely exists between the Copper Mountain Metropolitan District and Copper Mountain, Inc. regarding this matter.
When the Metro District sold the golf course to Copper in 1987, the intent was to require Copper to relocate the play field elsewhere in the resort. A couple of moves placed it in the current location in the middle of the parking lot. A survey will be sent out shortly, by the Resort Chamber, seeking owner input
as to what public facilities are desired. PLEASE respond to the survey and express your opinions. If you would like more background information, please call me.
According to Gary Rodgers an update on all projects is tentatively planned for February 24th. If you are at Copper when this occurs, I strongly urge you to attend and learn what the resort operator is planning.
